Geri Circumplex

The Geri circumplex connects domain expertise (‘Teaching and research’) with ‘Value and impact’ through capabilities that matter. These capabilities are purposefully arranged to form a sense making framework.

The green capabilities (‘Societal and Industry Currency’, ‘People Skills’ and ‘Societal and Industry Relationships’) are primarily about understanding, the purple capabilities (‘Communicating’, ‘Commercial Accumen’ and ‘Funding Support’) are primarily about being understood, and matters of potential and actual utility (‘Value and impact’) connect the two.

The Geri approach describes each of the eight capabilities in detail, provides attribute-based proficiency levels (essential, advanced, leadership) - and curates contextual and capability-specific insights and leading practice materials. ‘Value and impact’ is purposefully included as one of these capabilities rather than simply thought of as resultant outputs and outcomes. This is because growing individual, team and institutional knowledge, skills and experience (i.e. capability) in ‘Value and impact’ enables more purposeful engagement, and leads to better outcomes.

Geri professional development sessions often use a diving metaphor to help people make sense of engagement, and provide contextual information on the engagement landscape and trends. Leveraging this approach, we provide a growing range of Geri services.
